Just as there are various web authoring tools (Dreamweaver, FrontPage, etc.), there are a number of evaluation and repair tools designed to assess and fix inaccessible web page content. Using an evaluation tool can aid in the creation of accessible (and usable) web pages.
Created by HiSoftware, the AccVerify/AccRepair tool is now available at no charge to California Community College faculty and staff. This tool allows an individual to assess web page content on the computer or on a live web page.
This program is available for the PC-platform and exists as a separate application (there is a plug-in for FrontPage). The HTCTU is in the process of developing training materials for these tools. Download and license key information is available immediately.
Created by UsableNet, the LIFT tool integrates with both the Dreamweaver and FrontPage applications. LIFT identifies the web page content that does not meet accessibility guidelines and provides an opportunity to fix the content within the Dreamweaver/FrontPage application.
There are several other tools that can be downloaded and used for free or just used through a web browser. A list of these different tools is available at: http://www.htctu.net/divisions/webaccess/main.htm
